Terms of use
Last updated: October 19, 2026
This is a translation: in case of differences, the Italian version prevails.
By using Swaypoint you accept these terms. There aren't many and they're written in plain language: read them before you set off.
The service
Swaypoint helps you choose what to see at a destination and creates an itinerary on a map. The service is free. Information about places and trails is collected automatically from open sources (Wikipedia, Wikidata, OpenStreetMap, Wikimedia Commons) and itineraries are calculated automatically.
Check before you go
We do our best to make sure the information is correct, but we can't guarantee it: opening hours, closures, accessibility, prices and conditions of places can change. Distances and times are estimates. Always check official sources before you set off.
For trails, difficulty, length and elevation gain are indicative and sometimes estimated. Hiking involves risks: assess your fitness, the weather and your gear, and follow the instructions on site. You are responsible for this.
Account
To save your trips you can create an account with your email or with Google. Protect access to your email: whoever controls it can access your account. You can delete your account at any time from the “My trips” page.
We may suspend accounts used abusively or in breach of these terms.
Fair use
You may not:
- automatically scrape the site's content or make massive numbers of requests;
- get around request limits or security measures;
- use the service for unlawful purposes or in a way that damages it or makes it less available to others.
Content and licences
Wikipedia texts are available under the CC BY-SA licence, Wikidata data under CC0 and OpenStreetMap data under the ODbL. Each photo has its own licence and author, shown next to the photo or in the page's credits list.
The Swaypoint name, logo, design and software belong to the owner and may not be used without permission.
Shared itineraries
Every itinerary has a link: anyone who receives it can see it. Don't include personal information in what you share.
Liability
The service is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, the owner is not liable for damages arising from the use of information on the site, from service interruptions or from the content of external sites. This does not affect the rights that the law grants to consumers.
We may change, suspend or discontinue the service or parts of it at any time.
Changes to the terms
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. By continuing to use the site after an update, you accept the new terms.
Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, the courts of the place where you live have jurisdiction. If you have any questions, write to [email protected].
